2008 Race Program, 3rd Quarter

When I look back over the past entries, I am still apparently not there. My last race was consistent, and about 1 second faster so I ran almost all my laps at 1:29 to 1:30. I guess this is good but I wish I could figure out what it was that got me into the 1:27's. Although the Michelins feel goos and my times are getting slowly better, for some reason I went faster on the Dunlops. I was horribly inconsistent on the Dunlops, but I did go faster when things clicked. I am going to finish the season on Michelins and see if November brings any more results. BUT, next season will change again. After two years of working on the 999, I think I have it working but it was a lot of work. I think the final settings will work with any tire, so I will probably try the Dunlops again with this set-up and see if the head-shake comes back or not.

I am going to switch to a 1098 next season, but the 999 may sty around. I have the new motor done now, and I want to see if it makes any difference. I put HC pistons in and had everything balanced/blueprinted. I want to see how it dynos.

I am starting to work on the 1098, spent a day at Infineon to see how it works. I started with a base model, tossed the rear suspension and went to Kyle Racing for a TTX shock, Sato link and Kyle custom rocker. It looks sweet and my first outing at Infineon went really well. No stability issues at all, but Infineon isn't really a fast track. We'll see how it works at WSIR before I get too excited. I will probably pull the front end off the 999 and put it on the 1098, since the 999 was a "S" with the Ohlins forks and the front works pretty well. The stock triples are the same as on the 1098, so I will start there, but I am hearing that the 30mm offset triples are the way to go. We'll see. The 1098 has TONS of front brake, but the large rotors make tire changes sort of a drag, so I am thinking the smaller 999 rotors would be fine and make life simpler.
